“The curtains were blue.”
What you teacher thinks: “The curtains represent his immense depression and his lack of will to carry on.”
What the author meant: “The curtains were f**king blue.”
Though it was created in relation to the novel, reference to this meme about author intent features regularly in my theatre going reflections; I’d like to think that if the theatre is quality, the curtains are never just blue. These are my stories from the stalls in response to this dilemma.
